Following a Council for Global Mission Middle East Task Group report presented at the General Assembly in 2024, the Presbyterian Church in Ireland (PCI) is holding this Day of Prayer with our Christian brothers and sisters in the Middle East. These communities, who face significant challenges in a region marked by conflict and persecution, are an integral part of the global body of Christ, and it is our privilege to stand alongside them in prayer.
Prayer is not only a central part of our faith; it is also an essential part of our discernment and theological reflection. It helps us listen to God’s heart for the Middle East, guiding us in how best to support our brothers and sisters in the region. Through prayer, we seek God’s wisdom and direction, trusting that He will guide us in knowing how to act—whether through tangible support, partnership, or simply offering our presence in whatever way we can.
This Day of Prayer is a starting point, but it is also a crucial part of our ongoing commitment to the church in the Middle East. As we meet with God and listen to His heart for the suffering and challenges faced by Christian communities in the region, we are not just called to pray but to respond. In seeking God’s guidance, we are opening ourselves to being led by His Spirit, ready to act as He calls us to play our part in supporting and strengthening the Church in the Middle East.
Let’s begin our journey of prayer with an openness to listen to God speak and guide us as we reflect on the experiences of our brothers and sisters in the Middle East, standing with them in prayer.
